Understanding Our Bottled Water Consumption

Film Recommendation

Tapped (2009)

Plastic, Plastic Everywhere

Tapped sheds light on the bottled water “beverage” industry. It’s a sharp documentary that delves into the practices and consequences, of the growing demand for marketed water.

This film will certainly help contribute to your own awareness of the impact of corporate practices on society. In their thirst for profits, industrial operations put substantial strains on the environment as well as society (see also Bottled Life). It’s a vicious cycle that needs to be broken, and the doc attempts to educate its viewers to that effect.

“Annual consumption of plastic bottles is set to top half a trillion by 2021, far outstripping recycling efforts and jeopardizing oceans, coastlines and other environments,” (The Guardian). Clink the image to learn more.

Mountains of Debris

Not only has bottled water waste reached every corner of the planet, it’s also getting inside of us! Indeed, people are now beginning to consume the plastic itself.🤢 Fine particles of plastic (microplastics) have now made their way into the very water bottles that we so carelessly discharge (BBC). This documentary serves as yet another wake up call. We need to reconsider the current practices of the bottled water industry, and improve upon our current way of doing things. Business as usual is clearly unsustainable.
