Carl Sagan On Facing the World We Live In

Carl Sagan quote, "It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.”

Encouraging Reality

Famed US Astronomer & Cosmologist Carl Sagan shared his opinion on the need to search for and face the truth. In these times of doubt and deception, it is vital that we persist in our quest for the truth. As he shared, “it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.”

This is a clear message to retain in light of all the climate change denying and fossil fuel lobbying. The truth is not pleasant. We are warming the planet, endangering human civilization, and threatening countless species.

Instead of reducing carbon emissions as we should, governments and industry are continuing in their pursuit of fossil fuel extraction. It does not look good.

Hope for Humanity

Despite the grim news however, we shouldn’t look away. You can’t simply deny something because you don’t like the answer. Rather, if we want to solve the frightening climate crisis, we must first collectively acknowledge the science. We are running low on time. It is therefore imperative that we try and understand our present reality and work together to avoid runaway climate change. After all, all we have is this pale blue dot.

Carl Sagan’s Powerful Message – The Pale Blue Dot

Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot quote.
We’re literally all in the same boat.

Spaceship Earth

Carl Sagan offers us this poignant reminder: this is it! This precious amazing planet is all we’ve got in the vastness of space. It’s imperative that we recognize its fragility and learn to live within its natural limits. There are so many interconnected systems at work to help keep this planet green and blue, providing us with what we need to survive and thrive. It’s therefore on us, as the universe made conscious, to face reality and accept our responsibility for protecting this incredible world.
